research coordinator Stephanie Devaney states that thanks to a simple blood sample taken from the pregnant woman from seventh week of pregnancy, it is now possible to find out if the fetus is male or female and therefore it is possible to detect any early ones chromosomal abnormalities.

The effectiveness of the examination is calculated as 95% at the seventh week and 99% at the twentieth week of gestation.
The risk is that in some countries the new technique will be abused for select pregnancy and interrupt it based on the sex of the fetus, without indications of interruption related to specific hereditary diseases.
