How to cure acne during pregnancy

According to a study conducted at the University Hospital of Nantes, France, acne in pregnancy affects almost one in two pregnant women.

The cause of this disorder is mainly related to hormonal changes. The secretion of estrogen and progesterone undergoes great alterations during pregnancy (Read) and this also affects the production of sebum and the balance of the skin.

And the risk of suffering from acne is much higher for women who had acne problems in their teens or earlier pregnancy.
Blackheads, red pimples, small cysts: acne in pregnancy can affect not only the skin of the face, but also that of the back or chest.

How to intervene

The French dermatologist Brigitte Dréno recalls that most of the cosmetic or pharmaceutical products that are generally prescribed to treat acne, are contraindicated in pregnancy due to substances virtually toxic for the fetus, such as retinoids, tetracycline, isotretinoin (Read).
